Top Headlines From The Hockey World

Hello Everyone, I will be starting to blog again.

Saturday August 29, 2009

Yesterday the Vancouver Canucks have added some depth to their blueline in a trade with the San Jose Sharks. The team has acquired defencemen Christian Ehrhoff and Brad Lukowich from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for defenceman Daniel Rahimi and forward Patrick White. The Sharks have made this trade to free up some cap space. Trading Christian Ehrhoff and Brad Lukowich they have sent 4.4 millon for next season away. The Sharks don't bring much back. They acquired two players with two way contracts. Could this mean the Dany Heatley talks could come true? (more to come below)

The Vancouver Canucks also announced that they have inked veteran defenceman Mathieu Schneider to a contract. In keeping with club policy, terms were not disclosed.
Schneider spent the 2008-09 season spilt between the Atlanta Thrashers and Montreal Canadiens. In 67 games with Atlanta and Montreal, Schneider recorded 32 points (9-23-32) and 64 penalty minutes.

Peter Forsberg is trying to make a come back to the NHL. Thursday, August 27, 2009 Forsberg played for Modo in Yverdon-les-Bains, Switzerland. He played in a pre-season game played on the first line during his team's 2-1 win over Geneva. After the game Forsberg told reporters "The real feeling with the puck is not there" "You need a couple of games to get into it. It felt really good, no problems at all."

The Toronto Maple Leafs have granted a tryout to Jason Allison. Reports are saying that the 34-year old, who has not played in the NHL since the 2005-06 season, will attend the Leafs camp next month without a contract. The report also states that Allison approached the team about the idea of a comeback over the summer and Toronto agreed to have a look at him.

Team Canada's Orientation Camp warped up on Thursday with a Red vs White scrimmage. The game finished with a 2-2 tie. The first period had Roberto Luongo and Martin Brodeur go toe-to-toe against each other. They both came up huge, by not let any goals get past them and making some great saves. In the second period the Red Team scored 2 goals against Cam Ward. The scorers for Team Red were Jeff Carter and Patrick Marleau. Team White got a goal past Brodeur, who played the first 2 periods. The scorer was L.A Kings forward Ryan Smyth. In the third period Team White tied up the game with a goal by Anaheim Ducks forward Corey Perry, who snapped a wrap around by Pittsburgh goaltender Marc-AndrĂ© Fleury. Steve Mason turned away all 13 shots he faced in the final frame against Team Red which allowed his to tie the game. The scrimmage end with a Shootout which Team Red came on top with a 6-2 shootout win vs Team White. Steve Mason and Marc-AndrĂ© Fleury went head-to-head in the shootout against Canada's top NHL superstars. It was Fleury who had the upper hand, allowing only two goals on 12 shots. White’s only two goals came off the stick of Sidney Crosby, who snapped a wrist shot over the glove of his Pittsburgh teammate, and Martin St. Louis, who froze Fleury with a fake before snapping a shot over his blocker. Mason was not as lucky in the White net, allowing goals to Patrick Marleau, Dany Heatley, Brenden Morrow, Jeff Carter, Dan Cleary and Shane Doan. The six goals gave Red a small victory, although the shootout results did not count towards the final game totals.
The Orientation Camp went very well and this upcoming 2010 Team Canada hockey team will be one great hockey club, with the youngster and some the veterans of today's best Canada hockey players in the NHL.

Reports are showing that The Tampa Bay Lightning have agreed to terms with Alex Tanguary. RDS is reporting that the Tampa Bay Lightning have agreed to terms of a contract with Alex Tanguay pending a physical. Terms of the deal were not released. Tanguary and the Lightning have been in negotiation since July 1. Tanguay didn't decide until two weeks ago when he was contacted by Tampa Bay Lightning stars Vincent Lecavalier and Martin St. Louis that made him want to join the Bolts.

Rumor Time!
The signing of Zherdev in the KHL was never confirmed. Which means the NHL is still very much a opening for Zherdev. The teams that are believed to be interested in Zherdev are Atlanta, Nashville and Washington. Washington or Atlanta would be great spots for him to land a contract.

Predators showing interest in Chris Chelios. I think Chris Chelios will be in a Predators jersey by the start of the season. Coach Barry Trotz has had talks with Chelios and it seems like Chelios would like to play in Nashville.
